INSTRUCTORS
at the Pumphouse
Born and raised in Toronto, James began
his career as a commercial artist, with the ultimate goal
of being a fine-artist. His passion is painting in watercolour,
but he is equally a master of drawing with pencil or pen and
ink. James loves to share his expertise in all of these mediums
in his informative and fun classes and workshops for the Niagara
Pumphouse. James works can be found in private and corporate
collections, and he has exhibited in solo and group shows
throughout Ontario. His works are currently exhibited at the
Jordan Art Gallery in Jordan, at the Niagara Pumphouse and
The Artists’ Loft in Niagara on the Lake, at The Log
Cabin in Fonthill, and at the Posh Gallery in Port Carling.
James is a founding member and current President of The Parkway
Artists Guild, sits on the organization committee for The
Pelham Art Festival and is a member of ECOAA.

since 1996 and brings to her classes her long expertise as
a graphic designer, calligrapher, painter and potter. Her

her raku pottery which has been shown in three solo exhibitions
at the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art, Toronto. Susan has
had a book of illustrated calligraphy published and has had
several articles published about the nature of the creative
process. She operates East West Pottery in Niagara on the

Yimlei trained at McGill University and worked as an architect
in Canada for many years. Then a temporary move to England
changed her focus to ceramics, which like architecture, is
three dimensional. Working in clay was a natural choice. She
studied ceramics in the fine arts program at the University
of London’s Goldsmiths’ College. Among other works, she developed
thrown standing female forms in clay, influenced by classical
Greek sculpture and the traditions of clay vessels. She has
exhibited her ceramics and paintings in England and in Canada.
At the Niagara Pumphouse, Yimlei has offered classes in ceramics
and has served on the Pumphouse Board. Learn more about Yimei’s
thrown clay figures on her web site.
